Mesh Motorcycle Jackets for Hot Weather Riding

You do not have to choose between staying cool and staying protected. How mesh riding jackets actually work.

The most dangerous motorcycle jacket is the one hanging on a hook because it is too hot to wear. Mesh motorcycle jackets exist to solve exactly that problem, and a well built one gives up far less protection than most riders assume.

How mesh jackets protect

A quality mesh jacket is not a fishing net. It uses a tough open weave textile that still resists abrasion, combined with solid CE armor at the shoulders, elbows and back. The airflow comes from the weave, while the protection comes from the armor and reinforced panels underneath.

What to check before you buy

Look for reinforced impact zones rather than mesh everywhere, a secure armor pocket that keeps the pads in place, and a fit snug enough that nothing flaps at speed. Flapping fabric is both noisy and a sign the armor will move when you need it most.

Pair it properly

Hot weather tempts riders into shortcuts. Keep ventilated gloves like the Expedition Riding Leather Gloves or the Expedition Riding Leather Gloves on your hands, and keep proper footwear on your feet. Our summer riding jacket guide covers the full hot weather kit.

Build one to your climate

If you ride somewhere genuinely brutal in summer, a custom jacket with vent placement designed around your riding position is a real upgrade. The Gravlok Premium 3 Season Jacket can be specified this way too.
